SUCCESS FOR STAFFORDSHIRE’S 2010 YOUNG CHEFS!

Jack BullWinners of the Essential Cuisine sponsored Taste of Staffordshire Young Chef of Tomorrow and Master Chef of the Year 2010 were announced last night at a gala dinner and awards ceremony held at The Moat House Hotel, Acton Trussell. The ceremony was attended by restaurateur Sarah Willingham of BBC TV’s Restaurant series and new patron of Taste of Staffordshire.

The announcement followed a challenging two hour ‘cook off’ for the 12 finalists at Stafford College during the day which included preparation of a three course meal using seasonal Staffordshire ingredients costing under £20.

Jack Bull, of the Dog and Partridge, Tutbury was awarded the Young Chef of Tomorrow, while Mariappan Sethurajapillai, Head Chef at The Mango Tree, Stonall, won the coveted Master Chef of the Year award.

Launched in January, the competition invited young chefs aged between 16 and 21 and experienced chefs aged 21 plus, to submit a detailed three course recipe using seasonal local ingredients. Entrants had to work in the catering industry within Staffordshire.

Young Chef FinalistsYoung Chef of Tomorrow, Jack Bull’s prize is a week’s work experience at Andy Walters’ Michelin star fine dining restaurant, Edmunds in Birmingham, £250 prize money, a commemorative silver salver and membership of the British Culinary Federation.

Master Chef Winner, Mariappan Sethurajapillai receives £1,000, commemorative silver salver together with membership of the British Culinary Federation plus the kudos of the Master Chef 2010 title.

The competition, sponsored by Essential Cuisine, The British Culinary Federation, Staffordshire County Council, Stafford College and The Moat House at Acton Trussell, has gone from strength to strength since its launch in 2006.

Initiated by the Taste of Staffordshire, the competition aims to raise standards and develop culinary talent, promote local dishes and produce, and celebrate Staffordshire’s distinctive gastronomic appeal.
