A TEENAGE chef who is making a real name for himself as an ambassador for local produce is on the road to becoming the best culinary property in the North West.
Nineteen-year-old Martin Frickel, chef de partie at Kendal’s Castle Green Hotel in Sedbergh Road, was thrilled to win yesterday’s Cumbria heat of the Essential Cuisine-sponsored North West Young Chef of the Year 2009.

A YOUNG chef who fell headlong in love with cooking as a career after two false starts is on the road to becoming the most promising culinary property in the North West.
Tom Lee, who discovered his rightful place was in the kitchen after failing to gel with computers, then mechanics, at college, won yesterday’s Merseyside heat of the Essential Cuisine-sponsored North West Young Chef of the Year 2009.

Essential Cuisine opted out of the tradtional style Christmas cards in 2008, instead deciding to send out e-cards. The £250 saved has all been donated to the charity Hospitality Action. Hospitality Action is the trade charity for the hospitality industry, offering a range of services to past and present employees within the industry.

Essential is set to unveil its three new simmering stock sensations at two of the hospitality industry’s biggest exhibitions, where trade buyers flock to check out what’s hot and what’s not.
